Little Miss Rachael

It’s been a long time since I’ve taken photos since someone else, so I was so excited to be able to take some photos of little Rachael. She is adorable and already has a lot of personality! She was a wonderful little model and loved the camera. And she has a better wardrobe than me! Here are a few photos:

Working with Studio Lighting

I went over to my friend’s place and we were fooling around with some lighting she received from her uncle. I’m not sure I had my settings right, but I had a great time using my son Cole as a model. Despite the kitties that scared him, he did pretty well. I need to work on using studio lighting and indoor lighting, but I had a few good shots! I still love natural lighting…

Day on the Farm

I had a great time taking photos on my husband’s family farm in Remsen, Iowa. The weather was great and my dog and I set out to investigate what on the farm we could take photos of (or sniff.)

Come on over, Spring!

Yeah! Spring is just around the corner (let’s hope). It’s amazing what you can see on a simple walk. These photos are from a walk we took last year at a dog park in Maple Grove, Minnesota. I’m really looking forward to just getting out with the camera and finding shots like these. It’s just not as fun when you can’t feel your fingers!

4 Month Photo Shoot

I had a little photo shoot with my 4 month old, Cole. He was a great little model although his dad isn’t too happy with some of the “outfits” I chose. He actually loved being in the flower pot and was mad when I took him out. I’d love to hear any tips or suggestions on taking baby photos and new ideas.  I like to try and do a photo shoot every month so props and poses are always welcome. They make it so easy when they are cute though!

Petal Time!

I love taking photos of flowers. This past summer I got Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set. It was an inexpensive way for me to fool around with macro shots. Since my last posts have been about winter, I thought I better warm it up!!!

Snowy Landscapes

Due to the negative degree weather in Iowa, I decided to allow myself to post some more winter photos that I took over the holidays up in Bemidji, Minnesota. I braved the winter weather to take a refreshing and peaceful walk through the forest behind my parents place to capture a few photos.

Winter Wonderland

Since winter is upon us here in Des Moines, I thought it would be timely to share some winter photos. Although, maybe you would prefer to see photos that remind you of warmer times. I love taking winter photos, if I can keep my hands and feet warm enough and my camera doesn’t get hold and freeze up. Northern Minnesota is a great place to take winter photos, especially when you can hop on a snowmobile. (Note: if you take photos while on a snowmobile, make sure you are riding with someone that’s okay stopping every 50 feet to take a photo.)

Where the path leads…

I think what I love about taking photos of paths and roads is that the person looking at the photo can decide where that path leads and what’s at the end of the line. It allows the viewer to step into the photo. It leaves a lot up to the imagination. Not to mention that they provide a great visual line for photos.

One of my favorite little models

I’ve taken photos several times for our friends who have an adorable little girl named Ellerie. I always say that if you have a cute model, you are bound to get some good photos. And Ellerie is the definition of adorable. It helps that her mom picks out the cutest clothes and hats and is always up for fun photo shoots. And her dad is great at making her laugh and smile.

Ellerie just turned one year old on November 24 and I was thrilled when they asked if I would snap a few photos. Here are a few of my favorites. Did I mention she is adorable?
